I hinted at the Travel Pack Panel a few weeks back that my next stop would be one that I’ve been holding out for for quite some time- and that country is….drumroll please…ENGLAND! 🇬🇧
This will be my thirty-fourth country- which feels so crazy to say. I remember when I had a solid goal of visiting 30 countries before 30, and here I am at 28 years old checking off #34. I have to give myself a moment of celebration and pride. I still have an ultimate goal of seeing every country (there are currently 195), and look forward to continuing on my journey towards that goal. I will surely remember #34 in later years when I look back on my travels, as I wanted and waiting to see it for so long.
I’ve been all throughout Europe, and even got as close as Ireland in 2016 but kept deciding to wait to come to England. I’ve always felt that it wasn’t the right time, but knew it would be someday soon. I wanted to come to the UK and be sure to do it all right. With as pricey as it is, proper planning must be done- I have a strict budget after all!
I have a rough plan, now, and am excited to spend a decent amount of time seeing as much of the country as possible. A lot has changed in the UK just in the 2.5 years I’ve been traveling (hello Brexit) and I don’t want to miss the chance to see it for what it is: a country on the brink of major social change, much like my own. It will be fascinating, to me, to observe how society behaves and what the locals think about various issues in their country and in the rest of the world. With an extended itinerary (about 6 weeks) I will have plenty of time to really get a feel for the country’s culture- and to soak in all the adorable sounds of the English accents!
I plan to have a “home base” in Leeds, which is in the Northern part of the country and home to a close friend of mine, Phil, who I met in Budapest back in Summer 2016. From Leeds, I can even get a train over to Scotland in just two hours so (spoiler alert) that will be country #35. 😉
I can’t wait to spend time with friends, see England finally and challenge myself to find joy in near-daily rain. Yes, I said that. Also, I should probably get a good umbrella…☔️
If you’re in the UK or familiar with the country and have advice on where to go and what to see please let me know in the comments!
Also, would love to host a meet up while I am in the country as I know a good portion of my readers come from England, so shoot me a message!
Thanks for following me on this crazy round-the-world journey of mine. Let’s go see what fun we can find in the rain…
